Love BMW? Want to learn how to go racing? The company’s M Performance school now has the perfect program for you. For just a hair under $2500, you can kick off your path to becoming a real racing driver at the wheel of a BMW M4 GT4 at one of the company’s facilities thanks to its new SCCA-certified licensing school.
BMW announced today a slew of new programs aimed at getting drivers behind the wheel of its newest M4-based race car, located at its M Performance school at Thermal Raceway in California. In addition to the one-day SCCA-backed school, there’s also a program that involves driving the GT4 car alongside a selection of street cars, and two private coaching programs.
The cheaper of the two private coaching options, priced at $4995, gets you 125 miles of seat time in the M4 GT4, and supplies the protective gear, insurance, data logging, and trackside support. Drop another $5000, and you can upgrade to the 250-mile private coaching program.
BMW says the licensing school program can be tacked onto the end of an existing Advanced M School or two-day M School session, allowing for easy, streamlined qualification to go racing. In the SCCA-backed program, you’ll learn what the flags mean, how to perform a race start, and how to pass.
The company also notes that if you like the M4 GT4 enough, it will sell you one for $210,995, including destination. We drove one back-to-back with its street-legal counterpart back in 2018, and found it astoundingly well-behaved on track.
